Shopping for massage candles? They seem to be all the rage and they’re especially popular as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day gifts. Whether your massage candle purchase is for personal use or for gifting, it’s important to know that there are differences between the various brands on the market. Here’s what to look for when shopping to ensure you’re getting 마사지 best candle your money can buy.
Massage candles, also often called lotion candles or body candles, should be made from skin-safe ingredients that melt into a warm moisturizing lotion or massage oil. Because soy is a common candle making ingredient, and because it’s skin-safe, many body candle makers simply market regular soy candles as “massage candles” and claim that they are made for use on the body.
While soy itself is safe for body use, the fragrance oils used in traditional candles most often are not. Further, even if a fragrance is labeled as skin-safe, it does not mean that the amount of fragrance oil used in traditional candles is safe when used on the body.
Room candles typically contain from 1/2 ounce to 1-1/2 ounces of fragrance oil for each pound of wax. To be safe for body use, a massage candle must contain no more than 1/4 ounce of skin-safe fragrance oil per pound of “wax.” This means that body candles by default are more lightly scented than candles meant to fragrance your home. If you find a massage candle promoted as “extra fragrant” or “highly scented,” that candle is not skin-safe.
Another consideration is the nature of ingredients used to make the candle’s “wax” foundation. Soy as the only ingredient is certainly fine. However, soy alone is limited in its abilities to add moisture to the skin. Better quality massage candles commonly feature a combination of skin nurturing properties such as shea butter, cocoa butter, avocado butter, hemp oil, coconut oil, apricot kernel oil, vitamin e, or other skin-moisturizing ingredients.
Keep in mind that any product made for use on the body must comply with FDA guidelines. Among other requirements, this means that all ingredients used in the product must be fully disclosed on the label. The FDA also requires that the manufacturer’s phone number be listed on the label.
If you haven’t yet experienced a massage candle, you owe yourself the pleasure. A high-quality body candle can provide exceptional skin moisture when used on chapped or dry skin. It’s especially helpful when used on rough elbows and heels, ragged cuticles, or moisture-deprived skin anywhere on the body. Just make sure that you’re buying a candle that adheres to FDA requirements for skin care products. Then simply use and enjoy!
